Vertigo is the feeling that the environment around you is spinning in circles. It can make you dizzy and make you lose your balance. Dizziness is a symptom of many health conditions rather than a disease in itself, but it can occur with other symptoms.
There are two main types of vertigo: peripheral and central.
Peripheral vertigo is the most common form. It occurs when there is a problem with the inner ear or the vestibular nerve.
Central dizziness is less common. It happens when you have a disease that affects your brain, such as an infection, stroke, or traumatic brain injury. People with central vertigo often have more severe symptoms, such as severe unsteadiness or difficulty walking.
